About Aspire

In September 2013 a new partnership between All Saints Academy, Plymouth YMCA and our main feeder primaries was created - ‘Aspire’

This partnership was set up to support primary colleagues in their planning and delivery of curricular Physical Education. It also offers extra- curricular opportunities and provides community links with the YMCA. Regular additional sporting experiences and competitive events are organised alongside the curricular support.

PRIMARIES

All Saints Academy and Plymouth YMCA will be  working collaboratively with five of our major feeder primaries throughout the year- Shakespeare, Knowle, Pennycross, Mayflower and Riverside.

A proposed tiered system has been offered to our partner primaries for September 2016-July 2017

Whole Package

What All Saints Academy will offer for 2016-2017:
  • Specialist PE Teacher to deliver and co – ordinate weekly PE lessons in feeder primary schools.
  • Support primary school teachers in their delivery of PE
  • Organise and deliver at least one competition every term for years 3-6
  • Set up and/or run extra curricular clubs
  • Establish local school- club links
  • Set up transition clubs – ( Targeting Yrs 4/ 5 / 6 )
  • Further develop links with All Saints –in particular sharing facilities, including those located at the Plymouth YMCA.
  • Development of flexible programmes to suit individual schools depending on their needs
  • Organise a co - ordinated CPD training to develop areas of need highlighted in schools eg gym/dance. Also safeguarding, first aid and governing body qualifications.
  • Co-ordination of a swimming programme for students who are unable to swim 25m
  • Support with coordinating/booking of Bikeability programme
  • Offer at least one event for those who are Gifted and Talented in PE and Games
  • Provision and support for SEND students in events -at least one per term
  • Support MTAs where required
  • Regular meetings with Heads/classroom teachers/TAs –as required
  • Foundation testing (Physical Development) at the beginning of September and again in July
  • KS1 Games- intra school competition for all Year 1 and 2, Inter school competition for year 2
  • All Saints Leaders in to support clubs
  • Leadership training for Year 5s
  • Media coverage for all main events to promote partnership between primaries, all Saints and YMCA
  • A termly ‘Aspire’ newsletter which outlines the main events of the term
  • Free use of the All Saints facilities including 3G and astro -where capacity
What YMCA Plymouth will offer for 2016-2017:
  • Support in lessons with sports coach who can work on inclusion/work with all groups
  • Extra curricular club offered weekly
  • Access to our specialist social inclusion worker and development of activities for young people with additional needs
  • Subject to availability, use of the YMCA mini buses.
