You are about to make the most important decisions in your school career. It can be difficult deciding the pathway to follow after year 11 especially as you have not secured your GCSE grades yet. It is obviously essential that you work very hard between now and the end of the academic year because the higher your grades the more choice you will have. It is particularly important that you maximise your grades in English and mathematics because these subjects give you access to specific courses.

As you choose what to study at Sixth Form at All Saints Academy Plymouth you will need to consider your ability and potential and select a suitable route that is going to stretch and challenge you. Students follow a number of different routes at Sixth Form here including:

What are A levels?

  • Advanced level of study
  • Available as a familiar or new subject

What can you study in Sixth Form?

We currently offer A levels in: Applied Science, Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, English, Finance, Health & Social Care, History, ICT, Mathematics, Mod Languages, Performing Arts, Photography, Physics, Psychology, Sports and Travel & Tourism.

What will you do?

What skills do you need?

    You need to be able to:
  • Organise your work

How do you choose?

    You need to have:
  • A strong interest in the subject
  • Be prepared to work towards exams

What grades do you need?

To study an A Level course you will need to have at least 5 GCSEs at B grade including English and mathematics. Some subjects may have further entry requirements. Many students will have higher grades than this.

Work Experience

All students are encouraged to undertake a work experience placement to support their area of study. This usually takes place on a weekly basis and visits by staff take place regularly.

Tutorial Programmes

In addition to your chosen courses your timetable will also include other types of courses to maximise your learning opportunities. These will consist of Assemblies, Careers, PSHE and UCAS preparation.

There are 3 pathways that you can follow in the Sixth Form.

  • Occupational Pathway

If you study Occupational courses, some of your time will be spent with a training provider, some doing work experience as well as lessons at the Academy.

What is a Occupational Qualification?

It is a course of study related to a broad area of work rather than a single academic subject.

How will you study?

You have the opportunity to study for occupational qualifications in a wide range of areas. You will spend 2 days a week at a training provider and 2 days a week in the Academy and are expected to do one day’s work experience each week.
